"In short: it's a feast."

- Ralf Döring, NOZ

The story is ancient and yet always new: the mermaid Rusalka wants nothing more than to be able to love like a human being. To do so, she sacrifices not only her fishtail, but also her voice. Rusalka stands silently opposite the prince and cannot tell him how much she loves him. He pushes her away and is cursed by the spirits. Shattered in body and soul, the prince wanders around looking for Rusalka and hoping for redemption. Only Rusalka's kiss of death brings the longed-for union of the lovers. Silence has never been made more poignantly audible than in Dvořák's opera, which the composer himself called a lyrical fairy tale. It combines Hans Christian Andersen's Little Mermaid with the German Undine and the Slavic Rusalky to create a great story about love, renunciation and forgiveness.

30 minutes before the play begins, we invite you to an introduction in the Upper Foyer. Here you can find out more about the background to the play and how the production came about.
