"ROOTS!Resist"
Premiere on Thursday, 21.11.2023 at 7.30 pm in the BüZe - Bürgerzentrum Ehrenfeld.
Second performance on Friday, 22.11.2023 at 8 pm in the Bürgerzentrum Nippes Altenberger Hof.
Following the successful performances of the Roots! project with the first part of the same name and the thematic focus on "Structural Racism" and "Roots!ImPact", the examination of "Cultural Appropriation", the director Anas Ouriaghli and his ensemble are dealing with the topic of "Resistance" in the new Roots!Resist project.
Migration in Germany and the associated diverse and transcultural society, as well as the parallel emergence of right-wing extremist tendencies and the associated shift to the right in our society, are dealt with on stage in an interdisciplinary way in the new play.
Particularly in view of the current developments following the last European elections and this year's state elections in Thuringia and Saxony, Anas Ouriaghli and his team are concerned "that our diverse and transcultural society is once again at risk due to right-wing extremist ideas almost 100 years after the NSDAP seized power."
The related questions of the theater performance and the subsequent discourse are thus: How could a society as diverse and multicultural as Berlin was in the 1920s allow the National Socialists to gain such power? What can we learn from history today? What traces have groups such as the "Edelweiss Pirates" or the "White Rose" left behind to this day? What active resistance is there today? And what is it directed against?
The audience will be taken on a musical and emotional journey through time, which will repeatedly pick up on biographical stories and interweave them with the fictional events on stage. After the performance, there will be an opportunity to talk to the project team in an informal setting.
In cooperation with the two performance venues, the same theater performance will take place, followed by a participatory audience discussion.
