Jan Jedenak - Theater of figural forms

"Since I was a child there was this hole inside of me. Since I was a child I was grieving - loving that which has slipped from view and grieving that which has not yet done so."

A hole, bottomless. It leads down into the depths of the human psyche, past various faces of grief. Leads down into an emptiness that devours, an emptiness from which something believed lost emerges. The visual and vocal mastery of human disturbance opens the abyss to apparitions of horror. A narrative between the conscious and the unconscious about the voids within us. A step into the void in order to enter into resonance with the emptiness.

Jan Jedenak works as a freelance puppeteer and director and has lived in Leipzig since 2021. He studied puppet theater at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart and theater, film and media studies at the University of Vienna. Since 2008, he has been developing independent theater productions with a focus on figural forms. He collaborates in changing constellations with other artists from the fields of music, dance, acting and puppet theater. Guest performances of his own productions and collaborations have taken him to international festivals in France, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Israel and Spain.

The production "/SEANCE/ Sequenzen zur Deutung des Unsichtbaren" was awarded the Fritz-Wortelmann Prize by Fidena and the City of Bochum in 2015 and best production at the Act Festival in Bilbao in 2022.
