When Reggatta de Blanc formed THE POLICE tribute band in 1988, nobody could have guessed that there was someone in this world whose voice not only resembled that of Police frontman Sting, but came close. "Pure, but beautiful coincidence," thought Reggatta singer Michael Griese at his first rehearsal with his boys in April '88. For Griese, this is still a special, precious gift to this day.
In the meantime, several years have passed, over 1,500 concerts have been played in all clubs and open airs in Germany and abroad and everything that Sting's pen has put down on paper over the last 40 years has been conjured up on stage. It should not be forgotten that the former teacher from the north of England continued as a soloist after his time with The Police from 1985 and released countless hits. There are few artists in this world who have such a comparable success story and have given the world so many hits.
The Police's success story began in 1978 with the classic "Roxanne", followed by, to name but a few, "So lonely" and "Message in a bottle" as well as "Don't stand so close to me" or "Every little thing she does is magic" and culminated in Sting's most successful work "Every breath you take" on his last album "Synchronicity"
Reggatta de Blanc did everything right when they formed their The Police tribute band at a very young age in the spring of 1988. And here the emphasis should be on TRIBUTEBAND, because for 17 years the sound, performance and stage show of what was once the most successful rock trio of the 80s was honed and almost perfected until, partly due to the line-up change in the band, they dared to tackle the big hits from Sting's solo period (which continues to this day): "Set them free", "Englishman in New York", "Fragile", "Fields of Gold", "Desert Rose", "Can't stop thinking about you" and "Don't make me wait", are just a few that the multiple Grammy and Brit Award winner composed after his Police days and released over the course of 12 studio and 4 live albums.
Reggatta's current line-up promises top-class quality on the instruments: Tom Quast (guitar), Jonas Wilms/Christopher Hafer (drums), Markus Wentz (keyboards), Dimitri Telmanov (trumpet), Wim Wollner (saxophone) as well as Maja Griese and Melina Kohler (backings). As a result, the band is not only musically versatile, but also in terms of line-up: whether it's the original trio, which brings the early Police back to the stage, or various Sting solo constellations with backing singers and a brass section - Reggatta de Blanc manage to bring all live constellations from the last 40 years of The Police and Sting to the stage in an original and detailed way.
In December 2023, Reggatta de Blanc completed their - believe it or not - 35th anniversary tour! Well over 1,500 concerts of a special kind were conjured up on stage. The inexhaustible live repertoire of The Police and Sting guarantees that Reggatta's shows have never been repeated since the beginning. Every concert is different. The various live versions that are interpreted sometimes result from the legendary The Police - Rockpalast concert from 1981, from Sting's Symphonic tour in 2010, from the well-known MTV Unplugged concert (1992), from Sting's Oslo concert in 1994 or his legendary live concert in Tuscany in the garden of his vineyard on September 11, 2001.
You won't hear studio versions of the songs from Reggatta, Reggatta play live and 1000% close to the original - just as you know it from the concerts of The Police and Sting in full bandwidth from the Internet.
Now you can finally experience it LIVE!
