How does Rap La Rue work?

Rap La Rue is a German hip-hop casting show that has made it its mission to provide a stage for up-and-coming talents in hop-hop. The show is aimed at all hip-hop artists aged 18 and over - whether drill, gangster rap or cloud rap, only one thing counts: be real and show off your skills.

The show finally offers aspiring talents in the rap game a platform where new voices can be discovered, heard and promoted. The application process is very straightforward: Artists simply need to upload a one-minute application video showcasing their skills.

Procedure of the show & jury

After an application phase, during which an application video can be submitted on the website, the top 100 participants will be selected. Of these 100, five will perform in front of a jury of established artists from the German hip-hop scene. Of these five candidates, only two are allowed to continue and the other three are sent home immediately, as the well-known streamer and creator of the show Sammy explains in EP 1. Each juror has 1 joker and can pull their favorite per episode.

The jury consists of renowned artists from the German hip-hop scene, including SADIQ, OMAR and SUGAR MMFK in the first season. They contribute their years of rap experience to evaluate and coach the participants. The show comprises several rounds in which the participants have to prove their skills and prevail against the competition.

The first season of Rap La Rue was a huge success and ended with a final on April 12, 2024 in Frankfurt am Main. The winner of the first season was Haaland936, who prevailed against strong competition. The second season started in August 2024 and once again promises exciting performances and talented newcomers. The first episodes are already available on YouTube and offer insights into the latest talents under the motto: Rap La Rue's Big Break, which is why the episodes are filmed in a classroom.
