William S. Burroughs' autofictional novel "Queer" was a revelation for director Luca Guadagnino. Now he has adapted the material for the big screen, with Daniel Craig as a gay junkie in search of love and intoxication.
1950: Wealthy American William Lee has fled from the police in New Orleans to Mexico City, spends most of his days in bars, frequents the queer scene and consumes all kinds of drugs. When he meets the young ex-soldier Eugene Allerton, his desire and hope for an intimate relationship grows. Together, the two set off for South America to search for the hallucinogenic plant Yage in the jungles of Ecuador.
"The new film from the 'Call Me By Your Name' director is once again an absolutely extraordinary cinematic experience that is sure to divide audiences. In stark contrast to Daniel Craig, who delivers perhaps the best performance of his career as a hopeless lover: driven, vulnerable and sometimes even unexpectedly funny." (filmstarts.de)
