From underground culture to global phenomenon: a tribute to the ballroom scene
Georgina Philp, known in Ballroom as Legendary Trailblazer European Mother Leo St. Laurent, invites you to the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum for an unforgettable evening full of glitz and glamor. With the Pump Into The Future Ball, we celebrate Ballroom and its expressive performers on the runway as part of the Ruhrtriennale. In front of an international jury, various houses and participants will showcase their talents and compete against each other in classic ballroom categories to take home one of the coveted trophies.
Ballroom culture originated in the USA and was brought to life in New York in the 60s and 70s by Black and Latinx trans women. In Germany, Ballroom was introduced by Mother Leo at the first ball in 2012 as part of the Berlin Voguing Out Festival. In the same year, she founded the first local Ballroom House, then known as House of Melody.
In addition to the Pump Into The Future Ball, Georgina Philp will meet international icons of the ballroom scene for a panel talk about Ballroom. In addition to the panel talk, there will be workshops from the ballroom community on voguing and runway.
