Premierenlesung - "BABA ISSUES" von Tessniem Kadiri

In the organizer's words:

Premiere reading & talk with Tessniem Kadiri

Tessniem Kadiri reads from her debut "Baba Issues" (park x ullstein, 2025)

"When and why did my relationship with my father become so complicated? When did we take a wrong turn? Is that why I actually have 'daddy issues'?"

Tessniem Kadiri deals with the most formative and difficult relationship in her life - the one with her father. Ever since she was a small child and observed the loving way her friends treated their fathers, she wondered where the distance that always stood between her and her father came from. Driven by irrepressible curiosity and a strong will, the two repeatedly got into seemingly insoluble conflicts until a break was inevitable.

Tessniem's Baba Issues keep her going: does the toxic male image her father grew up with in rural Morocco prevent him from having a loving relationship with his daughters? Would everything be different if an older sister had fought all these battles for them? What is true emancipation? In her debut, she embarks on a literary search for answers.

Tessniem Kadiri was born in Duisburg in 2001. She grew up there as the first daughter of a Moroccan father and a German-born mother with a Moroccan migration background. This makes her part of both the second and third generation of people with a migrant background in Germany.

Today, the young journalist works as a presenter for the ARD television program neuneinhalb, for the FUNK format Atlas and for the WDR Newsroom. She also presents the FUNK foreign format
ATLAS and is passionate about presenting in front of live audiences. This year, she was voted one of the top 30 to 30 journalists of the year by Medium magazine and was the youngest nominee to represent her year on the cover.

From February 16, 2025, Kadiri will present Weltspiegel for NDR, taking over from Andreas Cichowicz.

As always, we are opening our bar - we look forward to seeing you!
