Jozef Van Wissem - Cannes Soundtrack Award winner for his film music for the vampire drama Only Lovers Left Alive and long-term collaborator of Jim Jarmusch. The Dutch musician wanders between classical baroque and contemporary avant-garde and dusts off the lute from the academic stink that clings to it. His instrument, the baroque, renaissance or medieval lute, transports Van Wissem's music to a bygone era. The intensity of the dark sounds lulls the listener into an intimate world and allows them to sink into melancholy depths. Dark, mystical, fairytale-like.
Jozef van Wissem is self-taught and changed his intense lifestyle as a New Wave artist and bar owner in Groeningen to an avant-gardist, studied lute in New York and then became one of the most influential contemporary composers, known for his solo and cinematic works. In addition to Jim Jarmusch, he also worked with Zola Jesus, Tilda Swinton and Jarboe.
