Phishbacher Plays The Beatles - a perfect pairing. This latest creation closes a musical circle for New York-based pianist Walter Fischbacher and his trio. Phishbacher's first album, titled "Chillin" and released in 2004, has deep roots in the classic jazz piano trio tradition, as does this latest record, which will be released in spring 2023. But as usual, Phishbacher Trio expands the musical language of the piano trio with a wide range of influences, from odd-meter arrangements in the style of Avishai Cohen to Latin grooves reminiscent of Michel Camilo, with a good dash of the blues thrown in for good measure. Fischbacher's unmistakable reharmonizations enrich the reinterpretation of each piece without losing sight of the essence of the original material.

Born and raised in Austria, Fischbacher moved to New York in 1994. Here he studied jazz piano and played with jazz greats such as Ravi Coltrane, Randy Brecker, George Garzone and Ingrid Jensen. He ran his own recording studio for 15 years and also worked as a music producer, recording and mastering engineer (Jose James, Mike Stern, Junior Mance, Christian McBride, Antonio Sanchez).

For Fischbacher, however, this musical circle also closes in another way. Influenced by the musical tastes of two older siblings, he absorbed the music of the Beatles at a young age. It is therefore fitting that he tackles this music decades later and puts together a set that sounds both deeply familiar and enchantingly fresh. He is joined by highly sought-after Czech bassist Petr Dvorsky and German star drummer Ulf Stricker. Phishbacher Trio are absolute masters when it comes to shooting a piece of music into the stratosphere and at the same time driving their rhythmic roots deep into the earth. Every single track shines with a joy of playing and just enough control to see the band glide along the abyss. It is this flirtation with the crash, the controlled madness, that enlivens simple melodies and sets Phishbacher apart from the masses. Phishbacher - an electrifying trio that elevates jazz to cult status.
