Philippe Parreno has revolutionized the experience of exhibitions. He choreographs exhibition spaces according to a script that links all the artworks together and in the course of which a series of unexpected and interconnected events unfold. The exhibition "Voices" deepens Parreno's long-standing exploration of the oscillation of reality and the fluid nature of being. He will transform the spaces at Haus der Kunst into an ever-changing science fiction landscape, where visitors will sense the imminent arrival of something that is not yet present. Parreno sees his work as a living organism that takes shape through temperature fluctuations, light, moving images and language ∂A and thus becomes a medium of communication in our world.
"Voices" is the highlight of this year's theme of language at Haus der Kunst. The central element is the development of the new language ∂A, spoken by ARD Tagesschau speaker Susanne Daubner. ∂A was conceived by the artist herself and is constantly evolving through machine learning. The language interweaves all the elements that Parreno brings together in the exhibition spaces, which develop an ever-evolving relationship with each other, take on different roles and meanings, and alternate between absence and intense presence.
"Voices" was conceived in collaboration with the Leeum Museum of Art in Seoul (28.2.-7.7.24). The two coordinated but distinct exhibitions share common commissioned works, a book with all voice-related texts by Philippe Parreno, a catalog and an overall concept of collaboration across continents, cultures and languages. As part of the respective exhibitions, Haus der Kunst and the Leeum Museum of Art present the publication "Voices", the first collection of transcriptions of various voices in Parreno's artworks created by the artist between 1990 and 2021.
The exhibition is supported by the Ulli and Uwe Kai Foundation.
Curated by Andrea Lissoni with Hanns Lennart Wiesner and Lydia Antoniou.
