Peter Lohmeyer reads "The Sunday I became world champion" by Friedrich Christian Delius

In his story "Der Sonntag, an dem ich Weltmeister wurde", the well-known author and Büchner Prize winner Friedrich Christian Delius combines the (soccer) miracle of Bern with a moving parable about the authoritarian climate of the post-war period and the liberating power of language. The autobiographical story takes us back to 1954, to a fateful day in the life of an 11-year-old boy. On this special 4th of July, while Germany wins the World Cup title against Hungary in the legendary final, the protagonist of the story experiences a moment of emancipation from the strict moral ideas of his parents and society. An awakening experience for the shy, stuttering pastor's son in tension with the feverishly followed soccer match on the radio. Delius paints a picture of the post-war period full of small hopes and big dreams with a fine touch and quiet humor. The events of the day become the backdrop for a sensitive reflection on freedom, identity and the power of small personal victories.

The popular film, television and theater actor Peter Lohmeyer reads. He achieved great fame through his role in the feature film "Das Wunder von Bern" and later in successful television productions such as "Tatort", "Der letzte Bulle" and "Bella Block". His most recent guest appearance at the Ruhr Festival was in the staged reading of "The Night of Seville".
