Performance von Julian Westermann: Star-struck

In the organizer's words:

In his works, Julian Westermann combines a wide variety of media such as sculpture, painting, drawing, installation and performance to create overall compositions. The individual elements function both autonomously and in collective arrangements. The works sometimes have an archaic appearance, such as an axe, an animal or a hand, but are clearly contemporary in their materiality.

History and the present, the here and now and the hereafter thus combine to form an unexpected composition. The objects themselves act as an interface between the different realities and temporalities.

In the installation Instead of breaking the tree, I broke the stick (2024) , Westermann deals with our present, which is struggling with ecological crises, among other things, and in which fantasy and playful, value-free imagination are barely accessible. What remains is a nostalgic sadness, a longing for nature and its magical quality of opening up other worlds.

The installation consists of various elements, including film, painting and sculpture, but also interactive modules that are activated by the artist in several performances during the exhibition.
