35th stage anniversary and a new CD
And one day a ray of sunshine fell into the sea and bathed a small country with emerald green meadows in a dull and misty light. And because it was always raining there anyway, the inhabitants decided that their music could be bright and cheerful, but at most sometimes sad and melancholy. But never gloomy and foggy.
At that time, however, a commandment took hold of people from near and far: only music dictated from above should be played. In New York, Rio, Tokyo and also in Frankfurt and Buxtehude. And in Darmstadt. All of Darmstadt? No, a VW bus occupied by indomitable musicians will not stop resisting the mainstream and providing the engine with lubricant. For 35 years now, PADDY GOES TO HOLYHEAD has been playing on stages all over Germany and Europe. The Paddies, as they are affectionately called by their fans, have learned from the ground up. They know what it means to stick up the concert posters themselves under the cover of night and tirelessly drum up publicity for the countless gigs they have played in the meantime.
Many songs were composed, written and set to music by the band themselves. Some have become classics in their own right and are also covered by other musicians: Far Away, Here's To The People, The Titanic, Doolin, A Last Song - the list of songs is just as long as the list of well-known bands with whom PADDY GOES TO HOLYHEAD have shared the stage: The Hooters, BAP, Jethro Tull, Deep Purple, PUR and even the legendary Beach Boys.
When the album "Ready For Paddy" entered the German music charts, the music industry took notice. The catchy tune "Bound Around" stayed in the singles charts, followed by "Johnny Went To War", the track that stayed in the top ten of a southern German radio station's hit parade for 54 weeks. Other Paddies albums followed suit.
Nevertheless, the verdict of the music oligarchs was clear: unsuitable music for the genre. And the band is proud of it! With violin, guitar, harmonica and bass, the trio enchants the concert guests every evening and sends them on a journey to the green hills and moors of Ireland, to the gray working-class suburbs of Belfast and to the lively and exuberant pubs of Dublin with their songs and sounds. Or back to Darmstadt. It doesn't matter: music is the common language of mankind.
To mark their 35th anniversary on stage, PADDY GOES TO HOLYHEAD have established a mix of original compositions and beloved Celtic folk songs. And finally there is also a brand new recording with the most popular songs on one CD: "best of 35 years" is the name of the new album and it contains some tracks that have never been produced before.
