Out of Sight

In the organizer's words:

I produce waste, therefore I am. No matter where we are or what we do, something falls and we leave something behind. Nowadays, we sort this waste into black, green, brown garbage cans and yellow bags and have thus done our bit. Out of sight, out of mind. But what happens afterwards with what we have left behind?

Every day, people in orange work clothes are out and about in the city and come to our homes so that we can be freed as quickly, inconspicuously and smoothly as possible from what is left behind in our everyday lives. Work that is so much a part of our reality that we sometimes forget that it is done every day. Work that stands out when it fails. Work that shapes the entire image of a city and affects every single person in an urban society. Work that you can feel on your body and that exists all over the world.

In "Out of Sight", LOKSTOFF!, in cooperation with Abfallwirtschaft Stuttgart, explores the interactions between waste and society and how what we leave behind as supposedly useless is closely linked to what we think we are. The performance at the AWS depot in Stuttgart Stöckach invites you to reflect on both deeper social connections and the very concrete everyday work of the people in Orange.
