Or Bareket Quartet

In the organizer's words:

In cooperation with the Jewish Community Regensburg & the Friends of the Jewish Community Regensburg

YŌM, the group's upcoming album and Bareket's fourth track as leader, represents a new evolution for the group and for Bareket as a leader/composer. Energetic, focused and wide-ranging in its emotional content, yet rigorous and patient in its delivery, the music on the new album is a response to the reality in which it was conceived - in stark contrast to its predecessor SAHAR, which was written in solitude during the days of Covid lockdown and evoked themes of an introspective dream state, floating outside the flow of time, Bareket's compositions on YŌM were collectively shaped by the members as they navigated the many collective and personal reckonings of the fast-paced post-Covid world.

The 13 tracks of YŌM, which means "day" in both the Semitic language of Hebrew and Arabic, attempt to grapple with the broad spectrum of what light and heat mean musically: from illuminating to blinding, from comforting warmth to burning heat. The quartet's specific balance of personal temperaments is uniquely suited to exploring such a wide sonic landscape; Savannah Harris, the group's drummer, often describes the quartet's style of group improvisation as a kind of musical "capoeira" - the Afro-Brazilian martial art/dance whose practitioners simultaneously dance and spar to the rhythm.

In cooperation with the Friends of the Jewish Community of Regensburg, there will also be a guided tour of the Jewish synagogue at 18:00.
