Ξ xi
Microcosm of the Middle Ages: soundscapes of the 14th century
With Ξ xi, three musicians venture into the excitingly experimental sound world and improvisational musical practice of the 14th and 15th centuries. They perform secular and sacred music full of compositional and tonal density, rational structures and expressive melodies. In the French ars nova, polyphony and elaborate song forms such as the ballade, rondeau and virelai - all complex and expressive compositions - developed alongside the practice of notation. A similar development can be seen around this time in Italy, where popular secular genres were combined with stylized themes: Sound-painterly expression of fast-paced hunting scenes, artful poetry, tranquil pastoral idylls and of course: love is not to be missed.
