Celebrate the opening of the world's only festival for percussion in Hanover with us!

Percussion unites - eras, musical styles and people. That's the vibe of the Überschlag Festival. And our big opening night will already show you that: music that's crazy, brand new, experimental, retro, amazing and vibrating. United by the rhythm. On this evening, musicians from a wide variety of genres invite everyone who is open to a special kind of musical experience.

Come as you are and stay as long as you like! You can stand, walk or sit - with or without a drink - and enjoy the three-part evening.

We begin with Georges Antheil's Ballet Mécanique for eleven percussionists and four pianos! Even after 100 years, this "noise music" still seems brand new and outrageous. Between industrial noise and salon music, doorbells and airplane propellers are used here, among other things.

With the recently completed Empty Rave , Spanish "post composers" Óscar Escudero and Belenish Moreno-Gil take up the motif of the mechanical dance of life and translate it into the year 2024. What is the independent artificial intelligence doing to us? Is it the reason for the alienation we feel? What does emptiness sound like when we experience it together? Before you know it, you'll find yourself in the middle of the Empty Rave, between four drummers in front of gigantic video screens.

Benny Greb Brass Band

You can recover from the intense and immersive borderline experience with the finest jazz music.

Following the opening concert, ECHO Jazz Award winner Benny Greb will accompany you into the night with his four-piece brass band.
In Benny Greb, the 2024 festival has been able to attract one of Germany's most influential drummers, who is creating interest in drumming beyond the country's borders.

The Opening Night is divided into three parts and can be experienced with one ticket.
