Open Talk „Theater als Spiegel sozialer Konflikte"

The international workshop for directing and dramaturgy "Focal Point" explores artistic, historical and contemporary reflections in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

As part of this theater project, seven production designs will be developed by theater professionals from Germany and Eastern European countries. These English or German-language production designs will be presented to the public in Berlin on February 22 and 23, 2025.

As one of the first attempts at a dialog in the cultural field since February 2022, this workshop aims to create a platform for artists and cultural practitioners from different countries who wish to express their views on the European historical situation.

Participating jurors and speakers of this workshop are the Belgian theater director and former leading director of the Thalia Theater Hamburg Luk Perceval, the founder of the RADAR OST festival at the Deutsches Theater Berlin Birgit Lengers, the theater director, actor and artistic director of the Brama Theater in Goleniów Daniel Jacewicz, founded in 1996, and the leading dramaturge at the Maxim Gorki Theater Johannes Kirsten.

This international jury will discuss theater as a mirror of social conflicts in the Open Talk at ufa Fabrik. The main questions will be: How can theater reflect current political and social crises? Can theater be a space for understanding in times of war?

The event will be moderated by theater critic and editor-in-chief of Draft almanac Alla Shenderova, who used to work as editor of the Moscow magazine "Theatre".
