The charming simplicity and crystalline balance of Eine kleine Nachtmusik have contributed to its ever-growing appreciation. The form and harmony never seem simple, but rather contain small nuances. Edward Gregson described his saxophone concerto - a dazzling cornucopia of ideas and jazzy dance episodes - in the following words: "Although the movements have no formal titles, they express certain ideas, so the first movement could be about the city, the second movement about love and the third movement about life." Tchaikovsky's Pathétique is stirring, full of longing and irresistibly beautiful - in other words, a masterpiece of Romanticism.
