DE 2021, documentary, 66 min., OmeU. Director: Marco Keller
There is hardly any other country where carnival is celebrated with as much devotion and verve as in Brazil. Alongside Salvador and Recife, Olinda in the north-east of the country is one of the best-known strongholds of the Brazilian Carnaval. Not only samba, but also other Afro-Brazilian music and dance styles can be heard and marveled at during the parades, including maracatu, coco and the frenetic frevo. In his documentary, director Marco Keller takes a look at the preparations for the carnival celebrations, accompanies the musicians Tonboy and Zeca do Rolete and provides an intimate insight into the social embedding of the local carnival clubs.
