Ohr zur Welt: MASAA

In the organizer's words:

The music of MASAA stands for the elegant fusion of Arabic poetry and contemporary jazz, in which Occident and Orient enter into a lyrical liaison with unprecedented coherence. Uninhibited and at the highest musical level, MASAA creates songs that reveal the complexity and at the same time the closeness of their togetherness.

The new program "Beit", Arabic for "house" or "home", manifests the idiosyncratic sound language and the creative will of all participants. MASAA are often mentioned in the same breath as border crossers such as Dhafer Youssef and Rabih Abou-Khalil.

MASAA impressively unite the essences of musical aesthetics from the Orient and Occident to create a highly intimate yet powerful music that transcends genre and other boundaries. Rabih Lahoud's haunting vocals, whose expressive power extends over several octaves up to the highest registers, always form the center of gravity of the quartet. The band was awarded the German Jazz Prize in 2011 and Rabih Lahoud the WDR Jazz Prize.

The quartet consists of Rabih Lahoud (vocals), Reentko Dirks (guitar), Demian Kappenstein (percussion) and Marcus Rust (trumpet).

The concert will be moderated by Bahar Roshanai, Körber Foundation.
