About:

In their joint artistic research, Magdalena Malinova and Nitish Jain approach the postcolonial concept of "othering" through multisensory and performative encounters between anonymous performers and spectators. They combine their experiences from the fields of performance, architecture and dance to create sensory safe spaces in which tenderness, empathy through touch and togetherness between strangers are possible. In their work, they question how we relate to those marked as "other", particularly in the context of identity, race, gender, queerness and normative behavior; and how universal elements such as songs, senses, imaginations and embodied perception transcend the boundaries of otherness and emphasize the essential and human.

As part of their "post-genre" residency, they offer workshops to continue their research on the theme of "Together With the Other". Participants will explore themes such as anonymity, vulnerability and touch in performative encounters. Together they will reflect on care, slowness and touch as radical practices. The workshops are open to artists, care workers and caregivers, singers, people with a migration biography and other interested parties aged 18 and over.

About the artists:

Nitish Jain, an artist born in India and living in the Czech Republic, works in the fields of architecture, performance, storytelling and object design. Trained as an architect and set designer, he creates multi-sensory experiences that engage the audience through touch, taste, smell, sound and sight. Drawing on Indian rasa aesthetics and phenomenology, his work explores fatigue, tranquillity, post-coloniality and the climate crisis, examining the connections between human and environmental wellbeing.

Magdalena Malinová, a graduate of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, is a dancer, performer and researcher. In her work, she explores resting, morning rituals and somatic experiences, using the sensory and fictional means of the body to communicate with the invisible. She draws strength from hospitality and culinary practices that promote mindfulness, togetherness and slowness as essential tools for resilience in today's fast-paced world.
