Concept, music and staging: Jacques Palminger and Carsten "Erobique" Meyer
At the beginning of last year, a call went out: "Do you love music? Do you like writing? Send us your lyrics! Jacques Palminger and Carsten "Erobique" Meyer will turn them into music. You put down on paper the text that has always fitted the soundtrack of your life, even if the soundtrack is still missing, and send it to our team. The text is immediately set to music and, with the support of musicians from Veddel, recorded in the Immanuelkirche, which has been converted into an open recording studio. You can come along, be there and sing along etc. At the end of the project, there will be a big show and the production of a record."
The SchauSpielHaus received more than 200 submissions. Peta Devlin, Chris Dietermann, Mario Hänni, Carsten "Erobique" Meyer and Jacques Palminger spent two intensive weeks in May working on the songs, making a selection and developing initial sketches. After just three days, more musicians and singers joined them, either by chance from the island, attracted by word of mouth or invited specifically. The studio became a place of warm and bizarre, surprising and familiar encounters. "Songs for Joy" reached a temporary climax in May 2024 with the furious gala at the Schauspielhaus: more than 50 people on stage and 1,000 in the auditorium celebrated a project that was enough to make you cry, although you couldn't be sure whether you were crying with joy, emotion or laughter.
Exactly one year later, the double album "Songs for Joy" is finished. A good reason for us to get everyone together and bring the little miracle from the Veddel back on stage. It's getting glittery, it's getting warm, it's getting loud. It's time for "Songs for Joy"!
