The art of sand painting, the creation of magnificent pictorial panoramas on a sandy surface projected onto a canvas, has always fascinated audiences. Ukrainian sand painter Svetlana Telbukh will transform the works performed by the Philharmonic Orchestra into paintings made of sand at the New Year's Concert. For example, the witches' sabbath in Night on Bald Mountain or the enchanted forest from Shakespeare and Mendelssohn 's Midsummer Night's Dream will be brought to life in sound and image, and the broom from Goethe's Sorcerer's Apprentice will also be up to mischief both on the canvas and musically in Paul Duka's symphonic poem.
