Nesrine - "Kam ya Makan"

The Over-the-Border-Festival welcomes the Franco-Algerian singer, cellist and songwriter Nesrine to its stage once again. After her acclaimed performance last year as Local Ambassadrice, she returns with her new album "Kan Ya Makan". The album, Arabic for "Once upon a time", tells stories of her eventful biography through multilingual songs, while reflecting cultural diversity and personal insights.

Nesrine, praised by the TIMES as a "luminous, multilingual talent" and by the SZ for her freedom, sings in Arabic, French and English on "Kan Ya Makan", combining her Algerian roots with her adopted home of Paris. The song "Bonnie & Clyde" marks a new milestone, as she switches between Arabic and French for the first time in one song.

With her virtuoso cello playing, which combines influences ranging from Bach to Arabic rhythms, Nesrine shows how music can fuse cultures. Her album not only talks about personal relationships, but also conveys an open-minded view that questions current social debates. "Kan Ya Makan" and songs like "Dunia" give insights into her life story and emphasize the enrichment that comes from cultural connections.
