Jerusalem is being fought over: Christians, Jews and Muslims claim the city for themselves. One night, the crusader Kurt discovers a burning house and throws himself into the flames. The girl he rescues from the fire is the daughter of the Jew Nathan. Despite all religious conventions, a tender love develops between the two, but it is not under a good star in this violent city. The bishop tries to persuade Kurt to kill the sultan, who in turn wants to have the bishop eliminated and seeks Nathan's financial support to do so. When Kurt learns that Recha is not Nathan's biological daughter, but the child of a Christian, he asks the bishop for advice - with unforeseeable consequences.
This new adaptation of "Nathan the Wise" is aimed at a young audience. Kurt and Recha's struggle for understanding and peace with each other is at the heart of the play, which invites further thought through its open ending. Due to its great success, the production is now entering its fourth season.
