"We want you to choose a memory that is particularly meaningful or valuable to you. One that creates a feeling that you would like to keep permanently. " Every person is given this task after their death. It is sometimes not an easy task, because what is a memory that you want to spend eternity in? For this reason, all dead people have seven days to come to their senses and everyone is given a guide to help them. Once you have found your memory, it is replayed realistically and you go into eternity with your memory. Sometimes it has to rain cherry blossoms, sometimes there has to be a very specific dance hall with a special encounter or an airplane is hovering. On this Monday, too, dead people and pilots meet. But what looks like a normal week turns out to be a particularly challenging one. For among the deceased is a person who is not yet ready for eternity and a pilot finds a person who meant a great deal to him. With "After Life", Hirokazu Kore-eda has created a world that is much less about death and grief than about the good moments in life, about why it is worth living and how valuable it is to have empathy for one another.
