What defines a person, their origins or their language? Phonetics professor Henry Higgins is deeply convinced of the latter. When the terribly eloquent flower girl Eliza Doolittle crosses his path, his ambition is fired up! He bets his colleague Colonel Pickering that he can turn the ragged streetwalker into a lady within six months. Eliza is intrigued by this offer and agrees to the language training. And after a few initial difficulties, the experiment actually seems to succeed, if it weren't for the fact that love comes into play ... "My Fair Lady" is probably the epitome of the "classic" musical, but it is certainly one of the most performed plays of all time. The curtain went up for the first time on March 15, 1956 at the Mark Hellinger Theatre on Broadway, and 2,717 performances followed at this theater alone. For the Gärtnerplatztheater, Staatsintendant Josef E. Köpplinger has staged the timeless classic in a Bavarian version for the first time!
