On a summer's day in New York, everything seems to happen at once for the young trans Latino Feña: Papa Pablo comes to visit from Chile and suddenly seeks contact, his heterosexual ex-boyfriend John gets in touch again after months of silence and then his 13-year-old half-sister Zoe shows up at the door. But since Feña's transition, the dynamics with all three of them have changed. He asks himself how much closeness with the people from his old life feels right.
In his debut film, Vuk Lungulov-Klotz portrays 24 hours in the life of a young trans man in an authentic and captivating way. Lío Mehiel, himself non-binary and with roots in Puerto Rico and Greece, embodies Feña's multi-layered in-betweenness in a multi-faceted and expressive way - and was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance for this performance. Hardly any other film before "Mutt" has shown the complexity of everyday life as a trans person so truthfully. (Lungulov-Klotz, USA 2023 - FSK 12 - OmdU)
