Experiences of motherhood rarely coincide with what culture and language convey about it. This ideal, selflessly caring, infinitely patient and happy mother - of course she doesn't exist. Instead, motherhood becomes the breaking point of a society: when mothers are still needed as unconditional caregivers, but cannot be spared as employees. When the work of motherhood remains invisible, when it costs not only the shirt off one's back but also one's pension.

Jorinde Dröse, who introduced herself as a director to Cologne audiences for the first time this season with the production WE ARE FAMILY, has staged an angry, sad and terribly funny evening on the subject of motherhood at the Berliner Ensemble together with actress Claude De Demo. The great response to #MOTHERFUCKINGHOOD and a series of sold-out performances show how urgently the topic belongs on stage.

On December 17, 2024, there will be a post-performance discussion with the actress Claude De Demo.
