Maz & The Phantasms + SINEM

In the organizer's words:

Slow Club Freiburg presents:

MAZ & THE PHANTASMS + SINEM

MAZ & THE PHANTASMS
The psychedelic surf-synth-punk collective from Glasgow, Scotland, led by the Catalan-Egyptian musician Maz, was with us last year and we were so impressed that we invited them back again.

MATP's kaleidoscopic fusion of genres combines groove-heavy melodies with sparkling surf guitars, krautrock noise, Latin American rhythms, catchy sing-along hooks and an electric energy that echoes throughout.

The cross-cultural power live show is a charming whirlwind, both tight and loose, creating a vibrant experience for music fans, especially punks and queers who love disco and feels like an afternoon at a music festival, a brilliantly madcap mess that takes the Glasgow jangle of the 90s and makes it bigger and sparklier and a lot more fun.

With plenty of festival experience (Kelburn, Eden, Solfest, Knockengorroch, Lancaster Music Fest...), DIY tours (Berlin, London, Bristol, Barcelona...) and their debut album due out in 2025, M&TP have developed a bold yet colorful sound that's hard, fresh and dynamic.

"There's something new, something special on the horizon, with a wild and ripped sound and a strangely magnetic vibe that lasts from the first second to the last, cranking up the energy and thrilling to the core." (Katharina Kovalkov, Die Rheinpfalz)

SINEM
Sinem conjures up the spirit of she-punks and moves across the stage with lizard-like determination, as if her name were Iggy Türkpop. And this determination is not only present in every movement, but also in her singing.

If you've known SINEM for any length of time, you'll get the feeling that this life has been lived so far so that exactly what is now running through our limbs can take place: Music!
And as is the case with determination - it remains opaque for the longest time.

Until recently, SINEM wasn't a band at all, but something of an organizational asset in the background of the Munich underground.
After all, it wasn't all that long ago that the children of the people who came to Germany to work back then naturally merged their at least two identities.
They are "divided into two worlds", as Ozan Ata Canani states in his song of the century "Deutsche Freunde".

SINEM are Sinem, Tagar (Friends Of Gas) and Tom Wu (What Are People For, The Hidden Cameras, Hans Platzgumer), who combine 80s New Wave memories, arabesque rhythms, minimalist synthesizer basses, electronic sounds, raw guitars and Turkish chants, (re)discovering the roots of the third generation Gurbetçiler, bringing them to life and overcoming the cultural clash.

The debut album was recently released on Staatsakt and has already been well received in the arts pages.
