Malereiausstellung 'Awake' von Tosca Kohberg

Cordial invitation to the painting exhibition by Tosca Kohberg @toscakohberg at Kunst im Quartier, Straßburger Str. 30, 22049 Hamburg.

Since November 2024, Kunstmarathon auf'm Dulsberg has started, which the neighborhood artist, Ji Hyung Nam, will present new artists* every month in her studio, Kunst im Quartier.

Tosca Kohberg as artist of the month January 2025 shows her painting work under the title 'Awake'. The exhibition 'Awake' deals with the theme of her personal awakening and self-reflection.

'Like a tightrope walk with allying eyes, this is how I felt after my life. A few years ago I found my love for painting and since then I can't stop painting. Painting finally makes me feel like I've woken up. ' - Tosca Kohberg.

The artist, Tosca Kohberg, describes that the exhibition represents a process that she has gone through in recent years, especially through painting. This painting has helped her to become aware of her own roots and identity, especially her German & Roma heritage.

The awakening process is emphasized as a central motif. The works reflect various aspects of this process, including the search for peace, love, self-healing and forgiveness. An important painting in the exhibition is titled "Amore", symbolizing the themes of love and healing.

Tosca Kohberg is a mother of two daughters, a grandmother of one grandchild, and a painter who has held a variety of jobs in her past, including selling sausages in a snack bar and being self-employed in carpet cleaning. She also worked in the bar business on the Reeperbahn for a while. Tosca describes herself as a "survival artist" and has always pursued creative activities.

A few years ago, she had a physical blockage that severely affected her health and forced her to spend a lot of time at home. During this time, she started painting again, which for her is a kind of therapy and a process of awakening. She sees painting as a way to process her difficult experiences and describes it as an addiction that brings her joy and fulfillment.

For her, art means that it is a place, a "fantasy land" deep inside ourselves that we can access at any time and from which we create the "infinite story". This shows that art is a source of inspiration and creativity for her.

She moved to Dulsberg, rather involuntarily, due to a separation. Originally it was only supposed to be a temporary apartment, but she has now lived there for 12 years and paints in her kitchen-cum-living room in Dulsberg.

The vernissage will take place on 17.01.25 at 6 pm in the studio. You can see her live painting daily from 18.01.25 in the studio. *Live painting on Saturdays but only from 14-16h. We are looking forward to your visit.
