Based on Shakespeare's famous play, "MACBETH IN CONCERT" combines theater, concert and installation to create a unique work of art. Actor and musician Christian Friedel, who starred alongside Sandra Hüller in the Oscar-winning film "The Zone of Interest" in 2024, plays Macbeth and all the other characters. The ending is at the beginning: we are immersed in Macbeth's self-created nightmare, witnessing an isolated man at Dunsinane Castle. His future was once foretold to him by three strange beings, the Doom Sisters: he would become king and no one born of a woman would be able to defeat him. They also foretold that he would remain invincible until Birnam's Forest came to Dunsinane. The prophecies come true, but not in the way the tyrant Macbeth imagined.
Once again, Christian Friedel demonstrates the breadth of his skills. Together with his band WOODS OF BIRNAM, Friedel presents the tragedy "Macbeth" as a multimedia spectacle of music, song, play, video and light as a German premiere at the Ruhrfestspiele.
