The Ballad of the Ring / בלדה לטבעת is a choreography that responds to a sequence of lyrical texts in order to lead the audience through moments of losing and finding each other again, of coming closer and moving away. Similar to the biblical Song of Songs, the repetitions describe a circular figure. In this current piece, the woman's counterpart is a language she loves dearly and her country, both of which have become engrained in her mind and body over many years and give her own existence its contours. When this land and its people are wounded by violence and war, the related self is also attacked. The rope that knots together Hebrew and German, Israel and Germany, can be embodied and communicated in a very individual way through the experience of a dancer and a poet. When word and dance, voice and movement meet, not only do two forces and arts enter the ring, but also two different cultures and their unique histories.
