In the organizer's words:

LOST IN MUSIC: Read & Cover

Event with readings and live music

IT'S A HARDCORE NIGHT was the name of a series of events in Munich at which authors, actors and celebrities read texts from their favorite books published by Heyne Hardcore, which still existed at the time, accompanied by local musicians and bands on the fly and then danced together.
Heyne Hardcore is now history.
But now the then publishing director and initiator of the event series Markus Naegele (also known as Don Marco as a musician and DJ) is bringing together what belongs together again under the motto LOST IN MUSIC (based on the cult book by Giles Smith).

Letters, (auto)biographical texts, articles, excerpts from novels from the wide world of pop music. Read aloud by authors, musicians, presenters and actors.
There will be live music on the fly, but not just any music, no, LOST IN MUSIC is also about the high art of cover versions, performed by local acts.
Afterwards, friendly DJs play their favorite records and it's time to party.

The performers

Zoe Mazah'smusical journey has been shaped by various influences. Born in Liberia and raised as a child with black skin color in southern Germany, the duality of two worlds with all their prejudices has strongly influenced her self-image. Trained as a classical pianist and studied jazz, Zoe chose Afro-Caribbean rhythms as her preferred musical language to express herself. She blends her African and European roots with powerful grooves, nu-soul and dub. Zoe has collaborated with artists such as Ky-Mani Marley, Randy Valentine and Alborosie and brings her music to stages around the world, be it with her band or in an eclectic electronic dub setup.

Thomas Meinecke was born in Hamburg in 1955 and now lives near Munich and in Marseille. He is a writer (numerous novels and stories published by Suhrkamp Verlag since 1986, currently "Odenwald"), musician (with his band F.S.K., founded in 1980, whose albums have been released on Daniel Richter's Buback label since 2008 (most recently "Topsy Turvy", 2023); since 1998 many joint electronic projects with Move D.), radio DJ (own program on Bayerischer Rundfunk 1985-2021) and also DJ in urban night clubs (Berghain, Robert Johnson, Pudel Club, Rote Sonne etc.). From 2007 until the first lockdown in 2020, he ran the dialogic event series "Plattenspieler" at Berlin's Theater Hebbel am Ufer, and since autumn 2022 the series has been continued at the Berliner Volksbühne.

Natalie Buchholz, born in France, studied Cultural Studies and Aesthetic Practice at the University of Hildesheim and at the Université Aix-Marseille. So far, she has published the novels "Der rote Swimmingpool", "Unser Glück" and "Grand-papa" as well as a series of books for young people. The author lives in Munich.

Hans Platzgumer, writer and musician (in the legendary band H. P. Zinker, among others), born in Innsbruck in 1969, lives in Vienna and Bregenz. He publishes novels, literary essays, albums, videos, theater and radio play compositions. Most recently published: "Die ungeheure Welt in meinem Kopf" (novel, 2024), "Großes Spiel" (novel, 2023) www.platzgumer.com

The Oktober Folk Club isthe band for the time after the nuclear phase-out: their music doesn't need electricity, because it is the electricity - their charge consists of archaic rhythm'n'blues, country, jazz and doo-wop. All the party music from the time before rock'n'roll, when in some places the lights were still switched off with a bucket. Axel Koch (banjo, vocals), Martin Lickleder (fiddle, harmonica, vocals) and Christian Salz (washtub bass, vocals) have been playing their soulful mix of classics from Hank Williams to Louis Jordan to Hoagy Carmichael and their own songs in and around Munich for years.

Henny Herz is one of the most accomplished songwriters on the current folk scene. Seemingly weightless, Henny Herz moves between the animalistic introspection of a Laura Marling, the feather-light melancholy of Adrianne Lenker and the creative courage à la Feist. She creates her personal and poetic songs without fear of the abyss. "Sometimes softly breathed with a midnight voice, then again blazing with eccentric weird folk", writes Rolling Stone.

Don Marco has been playing in various underground bands since the 90s. As singer, guitarist and songwriter in the indie garage band Fuck Yeah, he released two albums and played with bands such as Maximo Park, Algiers and Frightened Rabbit. As Don Marco & die kleine Freiheit, he released two albums in German with various musicians. 2024 saw the live debut of his new band Drug Stop. Under his real name Markus Naegele, he earned his living as publishing director at Heyne Hardcore, most recently as head of the btb Verlag program.

King Brownie comes from Osnabrück, where he influenced a whole generation musically as a DJ in Hyde Park and supported the likes of Die Ärzte, Stray Cats, Hanoi Rocks, Bo Diddley and the Undertones. He managed Lüde & the Astros for many years and works as a record salesman.
