LOST IN MUSIC:
Stories from pop music
Event with readings and live music
IT'S A HARDCORE NIGHT was the name of a series of events in Munich at which authors, actors and celebrities read texts from their favorite books published by Heyne Hardcore, which still existed at the time, accompanied by local musicians and bands on the fly and then danced together.
Heyne Hardcore is now history.
But now the then publishing director and initiator of the event series Markus Naegele (also known as Don Marco as a musician and DJ) is bringing together what belongs together again under the motto LOST IN MUSIC (based on the cult book by Giles Smith).
Letters, (auto)biographical texts, articles, excerpts from novels from the wide world of pop music. Read aloud by authors, musicians, presenters and actors.
This is accompanied by live music on the fly, but not just any music, no, LOST IN MUSIC is also about the high art of cover versions, performed by local acts.
Afterwards, friendly DJs play their favorite records and it's time to party.

The performers
Mel Castillo works in Munich as a freelance art director. She has headed the team of the non-profit indie magazine "curt München" since 2005 and designs the print magazines. She is also part of the music editorial team at Radio Feierwerk and hosts her own program "Kraut & Rüben".
Olaf Kraemer has worked as a journalist, author and director in Los Angeles, made a documentary film about Hank Williams with Townes van Zandt and Willi Nelson and wrote "Das Wilde Leben". He is currently filming a movie documentary about Uschi Obermaier and her time. His printed works include "High Times" and "End of a Night". He also explores various worlds of sound together with Kristof Hahn from the Swans and Tommy Wydler from the Bad Seeds as the Golden Vampire Experience. Their album "Polaris" was released last year by an American Krautrock label.
TRIKONT is probably the oldest independent record label in the world. And Eva Mair-Holmes has been the Trikont woman for what feels like a hundred years and she still doesn't know what she would rather be doing. Where else to put all her passion for music? Exactly. That's why.
Sven Kemmler is the current first-generation foreign minister of cabaret, author of books and stage plays, photographic artist, director and dramaturge. He is also a passionate wearer of hats, selvedge denim and sustainable wool and cotton products and a committed supporter of fine cuisine and quality drinks.
Matthew Austin is originally from Manchester and delights many fans in his adopted home of Munich with his blues, folk and indie-influenced sound: with his gentle picking on the semi-acoustic guitar, he conjures up harmonies reminiscent of early Dylan. Not everyone notices that Matthew Austin holds the guitar differently. But those who do notice it think of Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix, both of whom are also Austin's role models. As a left-hander, he had to find a solution for himself in order to finally be able to develop his potential on the guitar. For Matthew Austin, it was the beginning of finally being able to really make music.
Sincetheir first longplayer FANNY! (1987) has been a fixture on the German indie scene. Distorted guitars and raspy beats merge with seductive harmonies and beguiling melodies to create perfect pop songs, sometimes sung in English, sometimes in French. The result is plenty of pop between indie, chanson and garage. Their current album "Refrain" sounds so fresh and unspent, as if an up-and-coming newcomer band were on the move! ROLLING STONE wrote: "Great melodies and harmonies that feel indebted to the pop of the 60s and 70s, but never sound like dusty retro."
Don Marco has been playing in various underground bands since the 90s. As singer, guitarist and songwriter in the indie garage band Fuck Yeah, he released two albums and played with bands such as Maximo Park, Algiers and Frightened Rabbit. As Don Marco & die kleine Freiheit, he released two albums in German with various musicians. 2024 saw the live debut of his new band Drug Stop. Under his real name Markus Naegele, he earned his living as publishing director at Heyne Hardcore, most recently as head of the btb Verlag program.
King Brownie comes from Osnabrück, where he influenced a whole generation musically as a DJ in Hyde Park and supported the likes of Die Ärzte, Stray Cats, Hanoi Rocks, Bo Diddley and the Undertones. He managed Lüde & the Astros for many years and works as a record salesman.
