Smoking Popes

The Smoking Popes emerged on the Chicago punk scene in 1991 and have since built a very loyal fan base. From their early indie releases to their critically acclaimed major label albums, the Smoking Popes developed a unique blend of crashing guitars, caffeinated rhythms and soulful vocals that combined the angst of punk with the smooth sophistication of Frank Sinatra, creating music that was both urgent and timeless, influencing an entire generation of musicians.

Today, the Popes are closer together and more inspired than ever, having reunited with drummer Mike Felumlee (formerly of Alkaline Trio) from the band's seminal recordings in the '90s. Lead singer Josh Caterer describes the reunion, "We've been fortunate to have some really great drummers over the years who have all brought something unique to the band, but once we started playing with Mike again, we felt like, 'This is how it's supposed to be! Mike is the one who created our sound in the first place. Having him back in the band brings a lot of energy and excitement to what we do." This excitement is palpable on "Into The Agony", the band's first album. Now, for the first time in many decades, a European tour is finally on the cards, which will take the band to Belgium for the Brakrock Festival, among others.
