Anyone who has heard Spencer Sutherland even once will not forget it in a hurry. All you have to do is click on his TikTok channel and watch the clip of him singing "Benni And The Jets" by Elton John. From the very first second, an incredible, unique voice emerges from this gentle-looking man: a rock tube, subtly rasped by an audible love of blue-eyed soul and the theatrical vocals of glam rock. Over four and a half million people celebrated this video alone. But it gets even better when he sings his own songs.

Spencer Sutherland impressed a large audience with his voice and presence for the first time in 2017: In America, he performed the rather modern-produced pop track "Selfish" on the "Today" show on NBC, which sacrilegiously still digitally alienated his voice. In the same year, Spencer Sutherland then competed on "The X Factor" in the UK, where he made it to the live shows and swept people off their feet with Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On". Perhaps this gave him the idea of interpreting soul classics on his TikTok channel.

In 2018, Spencer Sutherland released his most successful song to date: "Tell Me" skillfully shifts between soul, glam and pop, even flirting briefly with R'n'B melodies in the verses before the chorus kicks in with a vengeance. This was followed in 2020 by the charmingly crooned ballad "Wonder", in 2021 by his feature film debut in the Netflix production "Is There Life After the Party?" and only in 2023 by the strong debut album "In His Mania", which begins with one of the best tracks in his oeuvre: "Everybody". Spencer Sutherland had found the sound he liked best and described it as follows in an interview on the release: "I call my style glam rock pop. I'm inspired by so many different acts like Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Bowie, Elvis, Prince and the Temptations. I just love dramatic, inspiring lyrics, powerful vocals and those Larger-Than-Live guitar riffs."

Spencer Sutherland says he is already working hard on album number two. So that he is not forgotten in the meantime, he continues to be the powerful-voiced charisma bomb that he is with TikTok, released the duet "Chicken Little" with Meghan Trainor last summer and has been showing what album number two will sound like since May. First came the wide-legged rocking "Alive", followed in June by "Let Me Loose", which adds a good dose of Queen vibes to the influences listed above. It will be interesting to see what else is in store before Spencer Sutherland captivates his German audience live in February 2025 with his unique voice and songwriting that skillfully celebrates the grand gestures.
