Lesemarathon der VDIG: Andrea Camilleri

In the organizer's words:

The Italian Cultural Institute Cologne, in collaboration with the Centro Interculturale Offene Welt - Mondo Aperto, is taking part in the 11th edition of the VDIG (Vereinigung Deutsch-Italienischer Kultur-Gesellschaften e. V.) reading marathon dedicated to Andrea Camilleri on the occasion of his 100th birthday and curated by Francesca Bravi.

The bilingual event will take place on Thursday, March 13 from 18:30 to 20:30 in the Institute's theater hall and will be moderated by Paola Barbon.

Andrea Camilleri is one of Italy's most popular and recognized authors. Born in 1925 in Porto Empedocle, a small port town in southern Sicily characterized by fishing and agriculture, Camilleri became famous for his bestsellers, which focus on the character of detective Salvo Montalbano and are set in the fictional town of Vigata. As a successful and versatile author, he has written numerous novels and short stories as well as poems and plays in addition to the crime novels featuring the detectives Montalbano and Collura. Less well known are his children's books, which are animal stories and fairy tales. The great Sicilian author has also achieved great international success with his work in the fields of literature, theater, television and radio. The VDIG Reading Marathon 2025 offers a unique opportunity to (re)discover Camilleri's work beyond his crime novels.

Paola Barbon (born in Milan) lives and works in Münster/Westphalia and Milan. She holds a doctorate in literature, is a moderator, dramaturge, literary translator and interpreter. Most recently she was an Italian lecturer at the Ruhr University Bochum.

Free admission.
