KunstBewusst: Elfriede Stegemeyer & Alfred Ehrhardt: Eine Gegenüberstellung

In the organizer's words:

A lecture by Dr. Andreas Sladky as part of the FREUNDE "KunstBewusst" series

What is it about?

The lecture is part of the exhibition "Sehstücke. Alfred Ehrhardt & Elfriede Stegemeyer" at the Museum Ludwig. The juxtaposition of the two artistic personalities Alfred Ehrhardt and Elfriede Stegemeyer/Elde Steeg provides us with a profound insight into the zeitgeisty prerequisites for the emergence of the "New Vision" in the history of photography. This allows us to recognize different approaches to artistic creation at quite comparable stages of development. Both were born in the 1910s and experienced their artistic training and development in the social tensions of the Weimar Republic and the Nazi regime. Both made a decisive contribution to spreading the spirit of modernism and both artists' work continues to inspire us today.

Who is our guest?

Dr. Andreas Sladky, born in 1958, studied art history at the University of Innsbruck with a focus on modern art history. In 2020, he completed his doctorate with a dissertation on the life and work of the artist Elde Steeg, also known as Elfriede Stegemeyer. In 2004, he curated the exhibition "elde steeg . das zeichen für leben" at the University of Innsbruck. In 2021, he took over the co-curation of the exhibition "Elde Steeg - Die Frauen machen die Brötchen" at the Ferdinandeum in Innsbruck. In addition to his curatorial work, Andreas Sladky also works as a consultant and lecturer, including at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne.
