More than 200 years after their first publication, the Grimms' fairy tales are still among the best-known works of German literature. They entertain both children and adults and are repeatedly reinterpreted in stage, opera and film adaptations. In this inspired combination of a selection of the famous fairy tales, read by Leipzig personality Armin Zarbock, and the music of Schumann, Weber and Webern, played by musicians from the Gewandhaus Orchestra, the fantasy, humor and charm of these works come to life in the enchanting underground setting of the Moritzbastei.
The morality tale "Der Spielhans" tells an entertaining story about the origins of gambling, while the seemingly light-hearted "Katze und Maus in Gesellschaft" warns against underestimating the power of natural relationships between living beings. The masterpiece "Von dem Machandelboom" is one of the most famous works by the Brothers Grimm. It is darker and more sinister than the other stories and therefore all the more dramatic.
The 3 Fantasy Pieces op. 73 by Robert Schumann - in a special arrangement by Jonathan Keren - and the 5 Pieces for String Quartet op. 5 by Webern captivate the listener with imaginative and dramatic soundscapes that reflect the settings of the stories and allow us to immerse ourselves deeply in the magical atmosphere of the fairy tales.
Join us on this special evening at KLASSIK underground - an experience that both adults and children should not miss!
