In 1923 Berlin, ten-year-old Kai and his friends hang out in the Prenzlauer Berg district. They call their gang "The Black Hand". When Kai learns that the American Mr. Mac Allan is in town to look for an "advertising king" for his chewing gum campaign, his ambition awakens. He and the "Black Hand" succeed in making the chewing gum brand "Bäng" famous with some clever ideas. But that doesn't make Kai the "advertising king". First he has to prevail against his adult rival, the advertising expert Mr. Kubalski. And the opaque Mr. Mac Allan seems to have something else up his sleeve.
