Juri Andruchowytsch // Eine Rede

The Ukrainian writer, poet and essayist Yuri Andrukhovych is one of the best-known contemporary European authors and his work is published in 20 languages. He is one of the most important cultural and intellectual voices in his country and has been awarded numerous national and international prizes, including the Leipzig Book Prize for European Understanding, the Hannah Arendt Prize and the Heinrich Heine Prize of the City of Düsseldorf. His most internationally successful novel, "Moscoviáda", tells the story of a student in Moscow who experiences the fall of the Soviet Union. Although it was published in 1993, the work remains as topical as ever and is almost frighteningly visionary. At asphalt 2024, "Moscoviáda" can be experienced in a stage adaptation by the Divadlo X10 theater from Prague. Yuri Andrukhovych will give an essayistic lecture. He will review what motivated and inspired him to write his novel 32 years ago. And, of course, he will draw a connection to today's Russia and the war in Ukraine - the ghosts of Moscoviáda have been reawakened ...
