It's called Alle Toten fliegen hoch (All the Dead Are Flying High), the first five volumes have sold almost three million copies, and it is unusually unanimously celebrated by the major German feuilleton. And when its author goes on a reading tour with it, the audience and the organizers reliably go wild. It will be the same this time. Joachim Meyerhoff calls the sixth volume in his series Man kann auch in die Höhe fallen. In it, he has his narrator move from Berlin to the countryside to live with his mother. What, that's it? Anyone who has read Meyerhoff's previous books will hardly ask this question; anyone who has seen how he reads will certainly not. Meyerhoff's novels are sometimes uproariously funny, sometimes skillfully melancholy, his stage presence is legendary - no wonder with a three-time "Actor of the Year". Did he really experience it all like that? It doesn't matter at all, Meyerhoff's protagonist already said as a boy three volumes earlier: "To invent is to remember".
