PARTICIPATION The workshop is aimed at children aged 6-11 years, caregivers are also welcome. If you would like to participate, please register at weddingaffairs@savvy-contemporary.com with the subject "Jina" and tell us your name and where you live.
JINA is a picture book aimed at readers aged 6-11. It is inspired by the true story of Jina Amini, the courageous young Kurdish-Iranian woman who stood up against injustice and sparked a global feminist movement. All over the world, people chanted "woman, life, freedom" and demanded equal rights for women and girls everywhere. The reaction to Jina's courage still reverberates and poses a question for us all: do we have the courage to stand up against injustice?
We warmly invite children and their caregivers to read the JINA picture book together with author Zilan Kößler and illustrator Clara Gilod and discover Jina's story through the interactive JINA storyboxwith musician Berfin Aktay and the Blue Boat Books team. In three stages of creative and musical activities, we will explore the following questions:
When do you feel free?
What does courage look like to you?
What voices do you have?
The book and workshop sensitively address difficult political events while offering a voice, hope and courage for children and adults.
ZILAN S. KÖSSLER is the author of the book and a Kurdish woman. She fled her homeland as a child and came to Germany. She is currently training as a child and youth psychologist and is involved in social and cultural work to strengthen the rights of women and girls. She is currently writing her second children's book.
CLARA GILOD is a French illustrator whose drawings for the Jina book combine the power of people with the soft colors of the land. She is currently working with Zilan on her second picture book, which also deals with human rights, memory and social responsibility.
BERFIN AKTAY is a Kurdish singer-songwriter who has a broad repertoire of her own music as well as traditional Kurdish folk songs. In memory of Jina Amini, she had a two-necked guitar built and named it "Kezî" - which means "plaited braid" in Kurdish.
