Jazz at JAKI: Kerstin Haberecht

The modern jazz quartet around Kerstin Haberecht with Andrey Shabashev, Bastian Weinig and Maximilian Hering is mainly dedicated to the straightforward compositions of the up-and-coming alto saxophonist.
Influenced by numerous musical role models, she translates formative experiences, unusual atmospheres or small associative details into her own musical language in her pieces. She takes great pleasure in presenting both the gentle, vocal and the energetic, percussive side of her sound, demonstrating a mature feel for varied energy progressions and polyrhythmic tensions. She is also characterized by her talent for strong melodies, clear themes and her flexibility in tone, which can sometimes sound warm, full and velvety, but also straight or brittle.
She is supported by a rhythm section whose different characters have a significant influence on the overall sound of HABERECHT 4.
In 2016, her first album ESSENCE was released on the Jazzthing Next Generation series. Subsequently, Haberecht worked on the release of several albums as a sidewoman with Jan Felix May & Band, PYU, MAINZ04 and was featured as a soloist with the Hr-Bigband in 2020, among others. She is currently concentrating on her main projects HABERECHT 4 and DUO VOLTIGE, whose debut album MAIDEN FLIGHT was released by Unit Records in 2024.
