Acting teacher Benjamin (Benoît Magimel) is appreciated and loved by his students because he helps them to get to their innermost feelings and fears and use them creatively. Something that the 40-year-old himself is unable to do when he learns that he is terminally ill with cancer. He refuses and only reluctantly accepts the awkward offers of help from his overly caring mother (Catherine Deneuve). It is only through her contact with the renowned oncologist Dr. Eddé (Dr. Gabriel Sara) and his assistant Eugénie (Cécile de France) that Benjamin is able to face up to his illness and agree to treatment.
