„Im Gespräch“ mit Navid Kermani

The "In Conversation" series is dedicated to renowned authors and their latest works. This time, the multi-award-winning writer and journalist Navid Kermani is our guest with his latest book "In die andere Richtung jetzt".

Navid Kermani has traveled from the south of Madagascar to the Nuba Mountains in Sudan. He brings East Africa to life carefully, through sensitively observed details, without grand theories. But at the same time, from a new perspective, Kermani also reflects on the issues of our present, on climate change, war, development and identity as well as the fundamental questions of existence.

Navid Kermani, born in Siegen in 1967, lives as a freelance writer in Cologne. He is a habilitated Orientalist and a member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry and 1. He has been a ZEIT author since 2022. For his novels, essays, reportages and monographs, Navid Kermani has received the Kleist Prize, the Hölderlin Prize, the Joseph Breitbach Prize, the Honorary Prize of the Austrian Book Trade, the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade and the 2024 Thomas Mann Prize, among others.
