Followed by a film talk with film editor Nicole Kortlüke, moderated by Dietmar Kraus (curator at the Edimotion film festival)
A story about storytelling: Like a little Southern Munchausen, Edward Bloom has enjoyed spinning fantastic tall tales all his life. This has led to a rift with his now grown-up son William, who is tired of his father always playing to the gallery with his fairy tales. But now Edward is dying and William attempts to uncover a few truths in the thicket of inventions.
"Big Fish" is one of the most accessible films by director Tim Burton, who is known for his eccentric and opulent fantasy worlds. These are not neglected here either and grow into an ode to the mythical power of cinema. More unusual for his work, however, is the core theme of the father-son conflict. Our guest, editor Nicole Kortlüke, finds its portrayal in "Big Fish" touching, even after repeated viewings.
Nicole Kortlüke is an editor for cinema and television feature films, documentaries and series. She is a graduate of the ifs film editing course. In 2024, she won the German Film Award in the "Best Editing" category for the documentary "Seven Winters in Tehran".
